Archaeological monitoring of ground disturbance associated with a development was undertaken on 24 May 2023 at Glenmalure, Castleknock Road, Castleknock Village, Dublin 15. It follows on from recommendations made within an archaeological assessment for the site in 2020. Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping was carried out using a 30-tonne machine fitted with a flat, toothless bucket. The development area was stripped to the formation level of the new building which extended into the natural subsoil. This consists of a yellowish-brown sandy clay. The overlying topsoil comprises a mid-brown silty clay and this survived to a depth of c. 0.4m.
No archaeological artefacts, or features of archaeological potential were observed during the course of monitoring.
