The site was overgrown with vegetation and modern debris, along with a layer of construction aggregate (C1), which measured between 0.2-0.4m and was removed from the entire site. A light brown, silty clay (C2) was exposed below C1. The depth of C2 varied across the site. A depth of less than 0.02m was recorded at the eastern extent of the site and a depth of 0.87m was recorded at the western extent. Modern debris was observed at the transition between the brown silty clay subsoil (C2) and the natural subsoil (C3), which consisted of a light grey, stoney clay (C3).
C1 represents evidence of the site's previous pre-development activity in the early 2000s. Modern concrete foundations and pits filled with construction aggregate were seen on the southern limit of the site. This was evident on the baulk to the south of the site, where the light brown, silty clay C2 was not present. One of these aggregate-filled pits can be seen cutting into the subsoil C3. These were likely created during the same pre-development activity mentioned above.
No archaeological features were identified and no finds were recovered. The work is now complete and no further mitigation is necessary.
