Archaeological monitoring of ground disturbance was undertaken intermittently between September 2022 and February 2023. The work was undertaken at the junction of Grand Canal Street Lower and Macken Street, Dublin 2. The primary ground disturbances consisted of the demolition of the standing annex structure on the site, piling excavation and guide wall trench along the perimeter, and excavation of a pre-existing basement structure. Upon monitoring of groundworks at the development site it was made evident that the site has been significantly disturbed in the past. Due to the extensive depth of the pre-existing basement structure and the lack of observed archaeological remains, it is likely that the previous development had removed all traces of any archaeological material that may have once occupied the site.
