Archaeological monitoring took place of MetroLink Utility Geotechnical Investigations (GI) works comprising 3 x advance pits for boreholes and 3 x GI trial pits in the vicinity of RMP DU011-081---- Lissenhall Bridge, Co. Dublin, a national monument in the ownership of the Local Authority.
The works comprised the excavation of borehole inspection pits and trial pits. The borehole inspection pits were 2.2-2.3m long x 0.6m wide and 1.2m deep. The trial pits were 4-4.5m long x 0.6m wide x 1.5-2.7m deep.
Monitoring of the Utility GI works confirmed the natural ground comprises a blanket of cohesive glacial till (Dublin Boulder Clay) with localised areas of glaciofluvial sands and gravels deposited along the path of the Broadmeadow and Ward River banks.
No archaeological features or objects were discovered while monitoring or using metal detection on the spoil from the Utility GI works.
