All groundworks associated with the proposed works were archaeologically monitored in order to identify and record the location of any exposed 18th – 19th-century walls or archaeological material. The wall was cleaned, photographed, and recorded before being removed under archaeological supervision. The trees and topsoil were removed from the inside of the wall and the ground level reduced. The modern concrete capping of the wall was removed, and the stone wall exposed. It was evident that multiple repair works had been carried out on the wall, as there were different types of red brick and concrete bricks and blocks used for repair works.
The wall was gradually reduced to ground level, from a height of c. 2m. in line with the lane. There were no features or deposits of archaeological interest within the wall or in the topsoil around the inside of the wall. There were no human remains found and plastic bags were found at a deep level. No archaeological features or deposits were identified, no further archaeological work is required.
