Archaeological monitoring was carried out at Tallaght Campus, Old Blessington
Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24. The site was subject to the geophysical survey (07R0114) and subsequently subject to archaeological testing in 2010 (10E0026), which identified a series of medieval cultivation ditches, a pit, and undated ditch and post-medieval stone drains, excavated under licence 11E0054.
Topsoil was removed to a depth of less than 0.4m across the area monitored, and natural subsoil was not exposed. Three minor test trenches/pits were excavated in order to assess the depth of topsoil. The natural was exposed in these at a depth of between 0.7-0.8m.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered.
The current phase of soft groundworks will not exceed 0.4m, the natural subsoil, which survives at a depth of 0.7-0.8m will not be exposed at any stage of the development.
