Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Kilshane Road, Dunsoghly, Saint Margaret’s, Co. Dublin. Archaeological Assessment of the site included test trenching. A geophysical survey was not recommended as the soil was introduced to the site as visible on the 1995 aerial imagery. A total of 5 test trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. Each trench measured 1.8 m in width, and in total, 268m of linear trenches were excavated. Only Trench 1 was excavated down to grey, creamy boulder clay natural. Topsoil was shallow, measured between 0.1-0.2m and consisted of a mid-brown to dark greyish-brown sandy clay. It was removed in Trenches 2-5 onto imported soil that consisted of grey stony sandy clay with plastic, pipes and rubble throughout, which measures a minimum of 0.1m at the south and up to c. 10m at the north end of the area tested. The imported soil was introduced to the site over 25 years ago and forms a man-made hillock. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified.
