The proposed development is in Magheracar townland, which is south of the town centre of Bundoran, in south Co. Donegal. The proposed works entail the construction of 68 houses in a greenfield site south of the main core of Bundoran town. In accordance with a planning condition related to archaeology, test trenching took place on 2-4 October 2023. Site conditions were good during the work, the terrain was gently sloping and easily accessible on foot. The site is sub-rectangular in plan and was covered in low grass having recently been cut. It has a very gentle south to north slope. Access to the site is via a field gate entrance directly located north of the narrow lane which provides access to the farm in the centre of the site. The site has hedge-lined boundaries, and the western area of the site bounds the back gardens of the neighbouring houses along Church Road.

Test trenching comprised 24 linear trenches excavated across the entire development area which comprised four large grass-covered fields in use as pastureland. Numerous field drains traversed the trenches running south-east/north-west and comprising stone-filled drains and clay pipe drains. Moderate occurrences of modern glazed ceramic fragments were found in the topsoil and originate from the nearby farm, during fertilizing the fields with household waste. No archaeological features, artefacts or deposits were observed in any of the test trenches.
