Donegal County Council proposed the development urban regeneration programme known as ‘Letterkenny 2040’. The project scope includes the construction of business, enterprise and innovation buildings alongside public realm and pedestrian/cycle infrastructure. The proposed development is within the town of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. It is in close proximity to the Zone of Archaeological Notification for MP DG053-042----Historic Town.
Test trenching took place on 12 June 2023. Five linear trenches were excavated across the entire development area within the greenfield site. A complete 19th-century clay pipe was found in the topsoil during the excavation of Test Trench 1. No other material, features or deposits of archaeological significance were noted during the test trenching.
