Archaeological monitoring of groundworks was undertaken for Uisce Éireann’s Water Network Programme for the High Road Water Mains Scheme (WMS) Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. The scheme involved the laying of 195m of replacement/new water mains (including associated assets, fittings and transfer of service connections) at High Road in Letterkenny. Site Investigation (SI) works were also undertaken at four locations for the High Road scheme to assess ground conditions and existing service locations. SI works consisted of the excavation of four trial holes TH1–TH4. TH1 was the only trial hole to be monitored, which took place on 27 June 2022, in close proximity to the AAP as represented by site of the former Letterkenny Union Workhouse graveyard (associated with Memorial Garden; NIAH 40502223).

Monitoring of an open-cut trench measuring c.60m in length, 0.8–0.85m in width and 1.2–1.6m in depth was undertaken on three consecutive days from 10 to 12 January 2023 under licence 22E0434. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered during the archaeological monitoring.
