Archaeological monitoring took place of groundworks at Churchtown townland as part of the Archaeological Consultancy Services Contract of the Lifford to Castlefin Greenway Project, N15, Co. Donegal.
The area to be monitored comprised a 200m strip of grassy verge along the north side of the N15 immediately opposite monuments DG079-009001, Graveyard; DG079-009002, Stone head; and G079-009003; Church. The monitoring area was within the Zone of Notification which surrounds those monuments.
Test Excavations under Licence No. 22E0897 issued to Aidan O’Connell and Metal Detection Surveys under licence no 22R0405 issued to Bart Korfanty, both of Archer Heritage, took place in the townland of Cloghfin as part of the same Archaeological Consultancy Services Contract, in December 2022. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded in the course of these works.
Monitoring of the topsoil stripping took place on 23 and 24 August 2023. The grass was removed to expose the subsoil, an orange-brown stoney clay.
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring.
