A programme of archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping was carried out for the Coolatee wastewater Treatment Plant near Lifford, Co. Donegal. The site comprised undisturbed greenfield. There are no known archaeological monuments in the immediate vicinity of the proposed works.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping at the site took place under varying weather conditions between 22 June and 2 July 2023. The stratigraphy was consistent throughout and comprised 200-300mm of a mid-brown sandy silty topsoil and sand overlying a yellowish-brown silty clay natural subsoil with occasional inclusions of small to medium stone.
Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the works. No further archaeological mitigation is required.
