Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken at the site of a permitted commercial development in Hollyhill, Knocknacullen West, Cork between 20 March and 11 April 2023, to comply with a condition of Cork City Council’s (CCC) grant of consent.
The monitored groundworks entailed the reduction of overburden and topsoil down to the upper levels of the underlying natural subsoil across a c. 3.4 ha area within the greenfield ‘Northern Lands’ of the development site. While evidence of land clearance and past agricultural activity was uncovered, nothing of archaeological significance was revealed during the topsoil stripping works.
