A programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the grounds of  St Finbarr’s Hospital (Knockrea townland), Douglas Road, Co. Cork, as part of a proposed nursing unit development.

No archaeologically significant structures, features or deposits were recorded during the monitoring works. A series of historical walls and a culvert were uncovered during the works. Three of these walls post-date the survey work undertaken in 1840 for the compilation of the 6-inch First Edition Ordnance Survey map (sheet CK074) and likely relate to later additions to the complex added around 1902 as depicted on the 25-inch Second Edition Ordnance Survey map. The fourth wall likely relates to a boundary wall also marked on the latter map of 1902.
