The excavation of Shannonpark 2 revealed a multi-phased prehistoric activity dominated by burnt mound activity, with associated troughs, pits, post-holes, stake-holes, a hearth and a water management feature . Pits, stake-holes and a post-hole also found on the site are likely of prehistoric to post-medieval date. Several drains, gullies, cultivation furrows and possible road-side kerbing that traversed the site are likely of post-medieval to early modern date. Several non-archaeological features were also identified. It is hoped that the specialist analysis and radiocarbon dating of the selected samples will further our understanding of their date and function.
The specialists work carried out in association with Shannonpark 2 will provide invaluable information on activities carried out on site, allow comparison to related sites and establish the date of the site.
