An archaeological impact assessment was carried out in advance of a proposed development for a private dwelling within a plot of land to the south-east of a recorded monument, a ringfort (CO069-001) and internal souterrain (CO069-057). The proposed development was located in the townland of Coolea (Cúil Aodha), approximately 4.5km south-west of Baile Mhic Íre village, near Ballyvourney in Co. Cork
Eight test-trenches were mechanically excavated within the proposed development area. No archaeological features or deposits were uncovered. Much of the A-horizon and some of the underlying natural subsoil is considerably disturbed from the field being ‘turned over’ for reclamation purposes in recent years.
