A monitoring condition was placed on topsoil removal at a development in Coolduff, Kilmurry, consisting of a soil reclamation site. This has been carried out in two phases using the reactivated licence from initial test excavation in 2021. During test excavation a fulucht fiadh was found (CO083-160) and is now preserved within a buffer zone. The first phase of monitoring was carried out over the northern half of the site in December 2022.
This second phase of monitoring covered the southern half of the site which was to the west of the southern approach road to Kilmurry and consisted of old pasture sloping down an area of wetland which is to be preserved. The stratigraphy consisted of between 0.3m and 0.1m of mid-brown topsoil overlying orange boulder clay changing to grey gravels and marl closer to the marshy area. No archaeology was found.
