A programme of archaeological mitigation, including excavation, is ongoing at a development site in Rathgoggan North, Charleville, County Cork and will extend into 2024. Archaeological activity was revealed across three areas of the site (Areas 1, 2 & 3).
To date, Area 1 (ex-situ burnt spread) and Area 2 (fulacht fia) have been fully excavated. Excavation is ongoing within Area 3 and a more detailed summary of the findings from all three areas will be submitted upon full completion of the mitigation programme.
