Monitoring was undertaken during groundworks associated with a single house development at Ballykelly, Broadford Co. Clare. The development is located on a greenfield site immediately adjacent to RMP CL044-032-- (Enclosure) and incorporates part of the Zone of Notification for the monument.
Three areas were subject to monitoring during topsoil stripping; the footprint of the dwelling and surrounding driveway/vehicular access, the site of the effluent treatment/percolation area and the footprint of the garage.
Topsoil across the site was between 0.17m and 0.4m thick, being shallower at the top of the slope on which the site sits and deeper down slope. Topsoil was observed to directly overlay the natural glacial till in all areas of the site; a mid-orangish brown sandy silt with some limestone pieces. Monitoring works encountered nothing of archaeological significance.
