Monitoring was undertaken during groundworks at the site of a new Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), pumping station and associated rising main and gravity main in the townlands of Kilrush, Cappagh and Leadmore West, Kilrush, Co. Clare.
The WWTP has been constructed on a greenfield site adjacent to the existing tidal tank at Skagh Point. Outside the water treatment plant and pumping station, the pipe-laying works were carried out in the existing road network. The WWTP site is located a short distance (approximately 150m) south of Recorded Monument CL067-006001- and CL067-006002- (Shanakyle church and graveyard). The pipe-laying route passes through the associated Zone Of Notification (ZON).
Three areas were subject to monitoring: the WWTP, the pumping station, and all pipe laying and related ground excavations within the ZON of Shanakyle church and graveyard. No archaeological features or deposits were observed in any of the monitored areas.
