Archaeological testing of a proposed single dwelling development located within the Zone Of Notification of ringfort CL016-052001 and souterrain CL016-052003 at Ballycasheen, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, revealed nothing of archaeological significance on the site. Information provided by the landowners demonstrates that the entire site was bulldozed in 1986. Grant documents show the area of reclamation, which incorporates the entire proposed development site. The clearance consisted of bulldozing all the bedrock, burying heaps of rock and spreading soil over the surface to allow pasture to develop. Testing confirmed that the site has been previously cleared with the clearance material evidently spread out over the site, presumably to create a more level surface. No archaeology was observed.
