Archaeological test trenching was undertaken on 8 December 2023 on foot of a planning condition attached to planning permission for construction of a new grass playing pitch (107m x 70m) adjacent to current pitch and all associated site works at Ballinkillin Hurling Club, Ballinkillin, Co. Carlow.
Four linear trenches measuring 100m in length, and orientated northwest-southeast within the proposed development, were machine excavated under direct archaeological supervision.
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological interest were uncovered, and no further archaeological works were recommended in relation to the proposed works here.
