Archaeological monitoring of watermains replacement on the Barrow Lane portion of the replacement of 1704m of new main at the Ring took place between 13 and 23 November 2023.

The works consisted of a mechanically excavated open-cut trench, which measured 0.4m in width and 1.2m to depth. No archaeology was encountered. However, evidence for the remains of a 18th- to 19th-century former road surface appeared sporadically within the trench wall profile.
