Archaeological monitoring following assessment of rehabilitation of existing 75mm PVC and 100mm cast iron water mains along with all the associated assets required took place between 5 and 17 May 2023. The works cover a total length of 191m at Bagenalstown Road.
Connections were made using directional drilling and as a consequence no open trenches were excavated. The revealed stratigraphy consisted of 0.2-0.3m grey sand and gravel onto 0.6m sandy grey-brown imported soil with very high stone/gravel inclusions, onto natural yellow silty sand or grey-brown sandy clay, with many round medium-sized stones. Where the holes were situated on grassy areas, the upper 0.2-0.3m consisted of sod and topsoil.
No archaeology was encountered.
