The development at lands 80m south of 32 Drumalt Road, Dorsey, Silverbridge, Co. Armagh consisted of the erection of replacement dwelling, detached garage/garden store and associated hard and soft landscaping (LA07/2022/1445/F).
Planning permission conditioned the agreement and implementation of a developer-funded programme of archaeological works. This is to identify and record any archaeological remains in advance of new construction, or to provide for their preservation in situ, as per Policy BH 4 of PPS 6.
In response to the relevant planning conditions, a phase of licensed archaeological testing, was undertaken on 7 July 2023, in the form of four machine-dug test trenches, positioned so as to test the entire footprint of the development, including the house site, access road, service lines and percolation area. In addition, due to the fact that the main house appears on the 1st ed OS map, the house and out buildings were recorded with the aid of a measured sketch plan and elevations, augmented with a detailed photographic record.
Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in the testing with only modern stone-filled field drains recorded.
