Pre-development archaeological test trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed single dwelling at lands northwest of 20 Umgall Road, Co Antrim in response to planning conditions imposed upon grant of planning approval.
An archaeological desk-based study confirmed that the development site is located within an archaeological landscape with several Archaeological Sites and Monuments, Industrial Heritage sites and Listed Buildings located within the study area including one Scheduled Monument (ANT056:033) located 50m northwest of the northern site boundary. The desktop survey and site visit identified a potential for archaeological activity and surviving sub-surface archaeological remains within the proposed development area.
A total of 4 machine-cut test trenches were excavated under archaeological supervision on 7 September 2023. No archaeological deposits or material were uncovered in any of the test trenches indicating that no archaeological activity survives within the site boundaries.
