Archaeological testing was carried out over three days from 3 October 2022. Testing followed on from a geophysical survey carried out across the site in May 2022 by Leigh Surveys Ltd. The trenches targeted geophysical anomalies and open green space to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site. Testing revealed seven areas of archaeological significance, which have been designated as Archaeological Areas 1–7. These comprise:
• AA1: A shallow linear feature, the upper fill has prehistoric pottery present.
• AA2: A sub-oval feature with possible in situ burning as a reddish hue was observed at the surface.
• AA3: A spread of heat-affected stone.
• AA4: A large linear pit; a possible piece of flint debitage was recovered from this pit.
• AA5: A sub-circular post-hole. A sub-oval pit with possible in situ burning also present here. A second sub-oval pit and a sub-circular pit.
• AA6: A circular or ring-shaped shallow slot for a possible structure with an internal diameter of c.5m. A mettled surface or pathway consisting of small and tightly compacted stones.
• AA7: An oval pit.
