Two trenches were excavated in the grounds of a school in advance of its proposed redevelopment. Test trenches were mechanically excavated under constant archaeological supervision using a 16 tonne excavator fitted with a grading bucket. Only two trenches were excavated due to the limited area available for test trenching. Topsoil was 0.3-0.4m in depth in Trench 1 with relatively compact mottled brown stoney clay subsoil. Trench 2 was excavated through a crushed stone surfaced car-park and no topsoil remained under the hard surface. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified during the course of test excavations.
