Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Main Street, Newcastle, Co. Wicklow. A total of 11 test trenches were excavated within the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total, 712m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil that varied from a dark orange to orange-grey stoney clay natural. In general, topsoil measured 0.24-0.48m in depth. The only features encountered were modern and included a water pipe in Trench 4 and plough furrows; these were found to be very shallow and filled by topsoil.
The investigation failed to identify any archaeological features, structures, or deposits.
