Archaeological test excavations were conducted as part of an Archaeological Impact Assessment relating to the proposed construction of a mixed residential and retail development on a c.0.9 hectare site on the north-eastern side of Castle Street, Bray, Co. Wicklow, an industrial site formerly the site of Heiton Buckley Builder Providers.

Seven test trenches were excavated across the site, with two extensions added to Trench 1. All seven trenches were initially opened by breaking through 0.12m of steel-reinforced concrete slab which covered the entire tested area.

Post-medieval activity was identified in a number of the test trenches; this comprised a number of cut features and frequent post-medieval refuse including animal bone, brick and tile fragments, coal and glass. Trench 4 produced evidence of the possible base course of a post-medieval structure comprising roughly hewn stone and red brick fragments in lime-based mortar.
