The initial phase of monitoring works commenced in November 2022 and were carried out between November 7–11, 2022. This involved topsoil stripping for a site compound and for a haulage road. The second phase of monitoring works recommenced in March 2023. A number of electrical cable trenches, associated with the solar panels, were being excavated by machine with a grading bucket which had a width of 0.5m. The sod and topsoil were observed to consist of a loosely compacted, mid-brown clay (C1), which measured between 0.1m and 0.2m in thickness. It lay directly above the natural subsoil of greyish-brown, silty clay (C2). The trenches were dug to a depth of c. 1m. A number of field drains, including ones with stone, were identified throughout the area but no archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered.
