Archaeological monitoring of excavations associated with the development of a 110kV electricity substation at Tullabeg, Co. Wexford was carried out between 25 July and 10 August 2022. The proposed development site is located in the south-west extent of a large field, in the south of Tullabeg. Early Ordnance Survey maps show that this field was formerly divided into several fields, with the substation site alone straddling three former fields. The former field boundaries and other agriculture-related linear features are visible as crop marks on recent aerial images of the site. An area measuring approximately 125m², comprising the substation site and associated construction compound, was stripped of topsoil. The topsoil ranged from 0.2-0.4m in thickness and overlay orange/brown clay subsoil with occasional outcrops of grey sand and gravel. A number of linear features, former field boundaries and land drains, were uncovered during monitoring. No archaeology was found.
