Archaeological test trenching was carried out at Ballybrennan, Castletown Geoghan, Co. Westmeath, adjacent to and north of the L5222 road within a greenfield under pasture.
A total of four test trenches were excavated within the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total 114m of linear trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. In general, the sod and topsoil (C1) measured between 0.22m and 0.36m in thickness and lay above a mid-orange natural clay and stone (C2). No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified, and no finds were recovered.
