Test trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed development located at IDA Ardmore Business Park, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. No previous investigations have been undertaken within the proposed development footprint. While there are no recorded monuments located within the proposed development footprint, there are seven recorded sites located within c. 500m of the site, and the development area is located c. 1.8km southeast of the historic centre of Mullingar Town (WM019-089). The majority of these sites consist of ringforts and hut sites, which likely date to the early medieval period. Two recorded sites, a ringfort (WM019-081) and a hut site (WM019-081001) are located c. 45m west of the development area.
Archaeological testing was carried out on 6 July 2022. A total of 6 test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development area.
Testing revealed no areas of archaeological significance.
