Monitoring took place of topsoil stripping associated with the development of a nursing care unit at Tyone, Nenagh. The site is situated directly to the north of Nenagh General Hospital which was the former site of Nenagh Workhouse. The site measured 153m by 96m and the topsoil had a maximum depth of 0.3m. The natural parent material consist of a light orangey-brown clayey silt. An ESB service trench which was related to the development was excavated to the east of the site and ran outside the boundary to the west of the graveyard at St Camillus Hospital. It measured 108m by 1.2m with a depth of 1.3m Further works in this area consisted of the excavation for an attenuation tank which measured 35m by 18m with a maximum depth of 1.5m. Underneath the modern gravel layer which was 0.35m deep was a dark brown sod layer which was 0.38m deep. This layer had modern inclusions of rubbish comprised of metal, plastic and paper. The natural parent material below consisted of light orangey-brown clayey silt. Nothing of an archaeological nature was found during the monitoring.
