Archaeological testing programme was carried out at Altanelvick, Beltra, Co. Sligo. The proposed development works entail the construction of an extension to the rear of a domestic dwelling. The site is approx. 0.289 hectares in size. The size of the proposed building (incl. extension) is 138.28 sqm.
The proposed development is in the vicinity of the Zone of Archaeological Notification of RMP SL019-127---- Enclosure. Planning Authority Sligo County Council recommended that an archaeological assessment in the form of testing be undertaken of the impact, including visual impact, of the proposed development on the archaeological remains in the vicinity.
Testing took place on the 5th of August 2022. Four test trenches were mechanically excavated across the site in the footprint of the proposed extension. No deposits, features or material of an archaeological nature were noted in the Proposed Development Area during the test trenching works.
