The proposed development area is in the townland of Termon, Boyle, Co. Roscommon in low-lying pastureland which is liable to flooding and is close to the Boyle River which forms part of the Shannon River Basin. North of the proposed development area is the currently disused Boyle Mill (NIAH Reg. No.: 31804039), which is situated on the opposite bank of the Boyle River.
The proposed works entail the construction of a water pipe, holding tank and pump for the supply of water to the proposed whiskey distillery located in Boyle Mill. In the direct vicinity of the development are RMP RO006-066001- Ritual site holy well and RMP RO006-066002- Ritual site - holy/saint's stone.
Archaeological testing took place on the 16th of June 2022. A total of two linear test trenches were excavated in the footprint of the proposed water tank and pump as well as along the length of the proposed water pipe. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were noted.
