Archaeological test trenching was carried out on the site at Srah, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. This was informed by
geophysical survey 22R0044. A total of 21 test trenches were excavated within the site. The test trenches targeted anomalies discovered during the geophysical survey (licence 22R0044). Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total 2,005m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil. A very clean mid-brownish-grey silty clay topsoil and sod, with a combined depth of 0.2m to 0.3m, was taken down onto a natural that varied from mid-yellowish-orange boulder clay to a light yellowish-grey sandy clay, mottled in places with stone inclusions. The anomalies detected were targeted and deemed geological in nature; some represented changes in topsoil that did not extend to natural.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified.
