Licenced archaeological monitoring was carried out on the 16-17 May 2022 during topsoil stripping associated with a proposed development at Crossakiel, Kells, Co. Meath. There are no monuments located within the site listed in the Record of Monuments and Places or in the Site and Monuments Record. The nearest monument is a Barrow - mound ME016-024----, described as a circular embanked enclosure depicted since the 1836 map in the heart of Crossakiel village, c. 70m to the northeast of the edge of the site.
The sod and topsoil measured 0.4-0.5m in thickness and lay directly above a natural orange boulder clay. Four test trenches were excavated where elements of the development required deeper excavation. No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified.
