Archaeological test trenching was carried out at Ratholdren Court, Navan, Co. Meath. An Archaeological Impact Assessment of the site recommended test excavation, to assess the archaeological potential of the site.
Testing was carried out on 4 August 2022. A total of eight trenches were excavated within the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total, 264m of linear trenches were excavated to the top of natural subsoil, which consisted of mid-brown sandy clay, gravel and stone. In general, the site was covered in a layer of compact gravel and demolition waste (C1) that measured 0.48–0.87m in thickness. Part of an east–west early modern field boundary, as depicted on the 25-inch Ordnance Survey map of 1910, was identified within Trench 5 (C3), while a post-medieval/modern field drain (C4) was identified within Trench 6.
No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified.
