An archaeological assessment was carried out at Harristown, Navan, Co. Meath. Seven trenches totaling 320 linear metres were excavated across the site in the areas of proposed development which included a grain store, access driveway, concrete yards and associated drainage system.
The natural subsoil was exposed at a depth averaging between 0.25m and 0.3m. A series of stone-filled land
drains was evident in some of the trenches and may relate to modern agricultural activity. Linear ditches that
correspond to old field boundaries visible on 19th- and early 20th-century mapping were also evident in the
excavated trenches. The assessment failed to identify any archaeological features or deposits and no finds were
recovered. Consequently, no further work is required at this site.
