Six test trenches were excavated using a mechanical digger beside two graveyards on the Convent of Mercy site in Westport town prior to redevelopment for housing. Dated headstones within the graveyards ranged from 1845 to 2012. No archaeological features or deposits were uncovered during the testing. A hone stone was found within the topsoil of Trench 4. The only other small finds were a few sherds of crockery that included willowpattern.
