Archaeological testing was carried out in advance of proposed residential development of 26 units at Gortskeddia, on the north-eastern fringe of Crossmolina town, County Mayo. The site is located within a greenfield site to the rear or north of Crossmolina GAA pitch and immediately west of Deerpark residential development.
Testing was carried out from 22 to 26 September 2022. A total of eleven trenches were excavated during this programme of testing. This covered an area of approximately 3500m. Several modern sterile drains and drainage channels were discovered in many of the trenches. On many occasions these are a continuation of the same drains being seen separately in each trench. Many of these contained modern clay and sometimes concrete drainage pipes.
No evidence for any archaeological finds, features or deposits were found during this comprehensive programme of testing.
