An archaeological assessment was carried out at the site of a residential dwelling at Dromiskin, Co. Louth, south of the monastic site and within the zone of notification of the monument. Two trenches totaling 18 linear metres were excavated in the site in the areas of a proposed extension.
The natural subsoil was exposed at a depth of 0.5m to the south of the site in Trench 1 and 0.7m to the east of the site in Trench 2. An east-west orientated ditch, 3m in width and 1.45m in depth, was visible in Trench 2 to the east of the house and may represent an extension of the southern boundary of the adjacent property to the east. The ground to the east of the site was quite disturbed and modern rubble and debris may be demolition rubble from a small building that was present on the adjacent site boundary in the early 20th century. This was
visible on the 25inch OS map (1907-09) but is no longer present. The south of the site appears to consist of garden soil above subsoil while the east part of the site is very disturbed. The assessment failed to identify any
archaeological features or deposits and no finds were recovered. Consequently, no further work is required at
this site.
