Archaeological test trenching at the rear of the property was carried out on 29 March 2022. A total of 2 test trenches were excavated at the rear of the property.
Both trenches were east to west aligned, measured 1.3m in width and 17m in length in total. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural that varied between light orange brown and grey stony boulder clay. The natural was exposed at a depth between 1.35m to 1.67m. In Trench 1, garden soil was exposed with frequent shells and animal bone inclusions. Two sherds of c. 13/14th-century green glazed locally-made medieval pottery (20E0581:03:1-2) were recovered. Modern rubble, plastic and disturbed soil were recorded in Trench 2. Furthermore, the west portion of the site could not be assessed due to the presence of a thick concrete slab.
The site is located within the historic Drogheda town (LH024-041), and the presence of garden soil with medieval pottery at its base identified in Trench 1 suggests the site, while disturbed (as recorded in Trench 2), has some limited archaeological potential.
