Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with the development of a new school on Clare Street, in the townlands of Monamuck and Park, Limerick City did not reveal any archaeological features, deposits or artefacts.
Previous archaeological test trenching on the site was undertaken in 2020 under licence 20E0165 (2020:076), revealing three areas of potential archaeological interest, including deposits of burnt stone. These burnt stone deposits were then excavated in August 2021 under licence 21E0013.
Monitoring of construction works took place in early 2022. Initial excavation of trial holes to examine ground conditions was undertaken, followed by monitoring of site preparation works and construction groundworks including topsoil stripping, earthmoving, pipe-trench digging and other intrusive groundworks. No further archaeological material was identified.
