Archaeological testing was carried out on the site of a proposed new housing development ‘Radharc Cillín’. The 0.43ha development site is located in a green field at the western edge of Kilfinnane town, directly north and west of an earlier phase of the same housing development.
Monitoring during construction of the previous phase of development had identified a smelting furnace/hearth and a pit containing prehistoric pottery, which were excavated prior to construction being completed (06E1221) .
Nine trenches were excavated in the current phase of work, revealing topsoil directly overlying glacial till. Nothing of archaeological interest was identified.
