The works entail development of a trail providing access to the sea at Tullaghan, Co. Leitrim. The scheme being developed by Leitrim County Council entails the upgrading an existing access road to the existing wastewater treatment plant and provision of carparking at the existing wastewater treatment plant site and development of a pedestrian trail with emergency vehicle access to the shoreline. Total area 0.456 HA.
The development is in the vicinity of several archaeological monuments including LE001-029---- Cairn (in which the proposed development is within the zone of archaeological notification) and close to LE001-028----Standing Stone. Due of the proximity of the proposed development to recorded monuments the Archaeological Impact Assessment completed by the author in June 2021 requested that a suitably qualified archaeologist be engaged to monitor groundworks.
Monitoring took place on the 2nd and 3rd of August 2022. The topsoil stripped from the entire development area was monitored to the underlying substrate. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted during monitoring.
