Archaeological testing was undertaken in January 2022 on foot of a planning condition attached to the proposed construction of a dwelling house at Galesquarter, Cullahill, Co. Laois.
A fragment of human bone - the upper portion of an eye socket and forehead of a 1–2-year-old child - was the only archaeological material found. Consequently, it was recommended that the entire footprint of the proposed construction, including a 2m buffer zone, be stripped under direct archaeological supervision. As it was recommended that an osteoarchaeologist be present onsite for these works, Caoimhe Ní Thóibín, osteoarchaeologist, undertook the archaeological monitoring in August 2022.
No further archaeology was uncovered.
