The development consisted of the phased demolition of an existing building with ancillary stores, offices, etc. in preparation for construction of a larger development.
In total, three phases of groundworks were undertaken using a mechanical excavator. Phase one involved stripping the sod from a greenfield site to be used as the location of the spoil heap and stripping the topsoil of an adjacent greenfield site down to and below the natural subsoil. Phases two and three involved the demolition of existing buildings and the stripping of heavily disturbed topsoil, ground surface, subsoil and the excavation of foundation trenches and pads.
No archaeology was identified during the monitoring of the groundwork at any of the three phases.
